Ever noticed the similarities between a chess game and the game of ‘life’? Some would not call ‘living a life’ as a game but I consider it very much so but only to a certain extent of course. It gives me much of a reason to do better in life, to win every game in every situation possible. As in a chess game I sometimes lose but that is not a problem – I will just look forward to a rematch.
Patience, strategy and sacrifice happen to be the three key points that determines the success of a chess game, which is not very different from how we live our lives.
Patience – Stay cool and do not rush into making a decision. Think wisely and play the game right. Think wisely and live your life right.
Strategy – Plan multiple moves ahead as you need to plan for the future. Without a strategy would be like the Knight without his stallion.
Sacrifice – At times we make sacrifices in life in order to achieve our goals just like a pawn is forgone in order to falter the opponent’s defenses.
Those who have yet to try a game of chess, I encourage you to do so as to me it brings a whole new meaning to the word patience. Playing chess has increased my sense of patience and I hope it will do the same for you.

I like your use of metaphor. My son wants to learn how to play chess.
Great Post... Right on the money! Hope people take this to heart.
I'm not really good at playing chess but it's just like playing Scrabble, in my opinion, in terms of developing patience.
Good advice, nice analogy!
Great post.......
- That is a good quote you left on mine!

Hi about 9 years ago I wrote a beautiful poem about how my life was like a game of Chess. I was strongly attatched to this man and he was not good for me. I presented him as my king and my life with him was to protect what I believed we had and it wasn't going well with me dancing for a living and him doing tattoos we were in money but no happy. I was depressed profoundly and our addicictions to drgs and alcohol missplaced us in this cruel world with every step I took in what ever direction I felt as if I was never going to win. Any way I wrote a page and a half poem and some man bought it from me at the srip club I worked at. I really was hoping to find it on the internet. I wrote a poem before that was a finalist in a $1000 prize contest and then it was supposed to be publishedbt my addictions prevented me to give attention to the matter when it needed it lke all other things. Now I am going to start again like i did when I started my new game in life. I so wish I could read my poem agian. It saddens me to know that I cannot and I long to feel that emotion of an urgency to find hope and strength in the game that you feel when you are running everyone ar;ound and trying your best to protect the only thing that matters to you. your love and the hate that it brings on from others it's so intence. I we=ill write and i hope you can write me back and make me see in my soul the fight and the heat that it brings. I want to challenge myself. The king has been brought down.8 years in prison after 17 years of downfalls he had so much protecting him but the stronger queen is back on th other side ready for a chance to taste him again. Oh how I wish I could write for ever about our love. How our life was like a big game of chess. I cried the hour I wrote it. watching him tear his life apart pushing me aside and only using me when he felt alone. April Hillshoff
